A phone can run Live on its own, with its microphone or one you plug in: to preach to many people through a speaker, or to hold a conversation with someone who speaks another language.
- Open Live Translation on your phone.
- Under How you will use it, choose Preach or Talk 1:1.
- Press Start speaking, and allow the microphone when the phone asks.
- Speak. The translation appears on the screen. Pause stops translating for a moment and Resume carries on. To finish, press and keep holding Hold to end.
If nothing appears when you speak, see The session is live but there are no captions.
Preach
- To many people, one way: you speak in your language and listeners follow in theirs, in your church’s languages from Settings.
- Tap Speaker to play the translated voice out loud, through the phone or a speaker connected to it.
- Listeners can also follow on their own phones. Listener link, in the More menu, shows the QR code. It is the same code every service.
Talk 1:1
- A conversation in two languages: the one you speak and one other. Each person’s words are translated into the other’s language.
- Put the phone on the table between you. The top half of the screen is upside down for the other person and shows your words in their language; the bottom half shows theirs in yours. While the phone speaks a translation, the microphone waits.
- Choosing Talk 1:1 narrows your church’s language setup to those two languages. Choosing Preach again puts the whole setup back.
- A Talk 1:1 conversation is private: nobody can follow it from the guest link. So it needs a session of its own. If another session is open in your church, end it first, and while a Talk 1:1 runs, no other session can start.
- If your church’s translation service cannot do Talk 1:1, the phone says so under the choice.
